THE RACE FORMAT

What Is HYROX?

HYROX is an indoor fitness race with one universal format worldwide: eight 1km runs, each followed immediately by a workout station. It is a test of strength and endurance that pushes an athlete from station to station under extreme fatigue.

I train athletes across all eight stations in race order, so every session simulates race-day conditions:

YOUR FIRST RACE

How Do I Train for My First HYROX Race?

Most of the athletes I train are first-time HYROX athletes. Since every athlete is different, our initial consultation covers your background and athletic training history. Some athletes are strong runners who lack physical strength, and others call the running portion their weakest. Once we identify who you are as an athlete, I structure your training sessions accordingly and schedule your workouts all the way to race day.

Identify Your Weakness

8km of total running decides more of your finish time than any single station.

Structure Your Workout Plan

A fixed sequence means nothing on race day is a surprise. We train exactly what is coming.

Training Under Fatigue

Stations practiced under run fatigue, the way you will actually meet them.

Race simulation

Mini-race blocks in the final weeks so pacing is a plan, not a guess.

HYROX QUESTIONS

HYROX Training FAQ

See frequently asked questions about prepping for HYROX.

Do I need to be fit before I start HYROX training?

No. HYROX has Open, Pro, Doubles, and Relay divisions built so everyday gym-goers and first-timers can race. Where you start determines how long we prepare, not whether you can. If you can walk briskly for 30 minutes, I can build you toward a race.

How long does a HYROX race take to finish?

Most first-time racers finish between 75 and 100 minutes. Experienced age-group athletes typically land between 60 and 75, and elite times run under an hour. Your target time shapes how I program your running pace and station splits.

Are there HYROX races near the Capital District?

HYROX runs a full calendar of events across the US, with races in New York City and Boston within driving distance of Columbia County. I help my athletes pick a target race first, because the date sets the training timeline.

Can my partner and I train for HYROX Doubles together?

Yes. In Doubles, both athletes run the full 8km together and split the station work between them, so the programming is different from a solo race. I coach pairs on splitting stations around each partner's strengths.

Does your studio have the equipment for HYROX stations?

My private studio in Stuyvesant covers the full station list, including sled work, rowing, sandbag lunges, farmers carry, and wall balls, so every station gets trained specifically rather than substituted.

How many sessions a week does HYROX training take?

A typical build runs 3 to 5 training days a week: coached station and strength sessions with me, plus programmed running you do on your own. I write the full week, not just the hours you spend in my studio.
